Cant decide what new lens to buy :Ponders:
Im looking at getting a better lens than the standard ones that came with my canon 400d package. Ive realised that i tend to shoot anything from 28-300 and its a pain in the backside constantly changing lenses
so i guess i could do with one lens that covers all. I also want something a bit better and have been looking at the Canon L series, expensive yes but im sure worth every penny.Would i be best with one of the following: Canon 28 - 300 f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM or Sigma 50-500mm f/4-6.3 APO EX DG HSM Or say 2 lens's say the following: Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 L usm Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM EF Your thoughts, advice and experience with any of these lens's would be gratefull Thanks Dave |

I've no experience with any of these lenses, but I've seen some good things written about the Sigma, and I think it is very good value.
Having said that, I think the two Canon lenses will give you more of everything (except change!). |

Re: Cant decide what new lens to buy :Ponders:
I have both the 24-105 and the 100-400. The 24105 is a superb walkabout lens, L quality and IQ. Highly recommended. I bought the 100400 specifically for sport but it's good for wildlife and even macro. Believe it or not this shot was taken with the 100400.
If it's a one lens for all then I would agree with the 28-300.It's L, has IS and USM but I haven't seen any shots for IQ. HTH |

Re: Cant decide what new lens to buy :Ponders:
The Sigma 50-500 is a beast of a lens and not very good for hand-held shots - heavy, no IS and needs a sturdy tripod. The IQ is pretty good but not up to the Canon 100-400. Also, do you really need a lens that goes all the way from 50 to 500? It's much too big to be a walkabout lens.
If you can run to L-Series lenses, the 24-105 and 100-400 are a good combination. |
