Re: Compact Flash cards

Sandisk have Ultra II, Extreme III and Extreme IV. I believe that the IV are UDMA enabled which matters only if you want to record HD video (which some of the latest cameras do).

Otherwise, the III should be more than enough, or the faster cards from Lexar and other good manufacturers.

The card speed determines how quickly the camera buffer is emptied, and can effect burst rate as well as how long it takes to download the files to your PC. There's no need to go overboard though - diminishing returns and all that.

The big thing to watch for is fake cards, especially on eBay. Being the most popular, Sandisk are often faked, so it's very important to buy from a reputable supplier (and never on eBay!).

Re: Compact Flash cards

All of the above that silkstone has said. I use 4GB III and more than happy with mine. Cheapest at the moment seem to be here SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/sec Compact Flash - 4GB | ONLY 16.99 Free Delivery @ PicStop UK I have heard of the company though I have no experience of them.

Check out Play.com prices first. They have free delivery and I think Picstop don't. Might make a difference.

At the moment picstop say free delivery but play.com worth looking at. Amazon were the cheapest with free delivery not so long ago but not any more.

Got a feeling that was a limited offer before/over/after Christmas.

Might be they are keeping it going to keep sales up.

SanDisk CompactFlash 4GB Extreme III Memory: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

This is not the newer 30 MB/s version but should still be OK.

Re: Compact Flash cards

I've seen other posts on this subject where the old card is shown on the site but the new ones are delivered.

Could be they can't be bothered to update the image.

Re: Compact Flash cards

just shows that it best to shop around. The difference in price between play.com, amazon compared to the like of Jessops is big (25).
