Compactdrive PD70x
Just bought one of these, and thought i would let you know what i think of it, not a full blown review though, as it only arrived today ! lol
![]() First Impressions, quite chunky, but not overly heavy. It uses AA batteries, so for sheer convenience it cant be beat, came with 4 NiMh rechargeables too. This was bought from someone on another forum, and was used, cost me £110 including post. Came with a 40GB drive installed. Have tested with a full 2gb Ipro card 40x, took 5 mins 20 seconds to copy the full card off so it seems pretty fast ! Basically put card in, switch device on, it starst and copies the data straight away, into folders it creates, then creates a sub folder with the dcim folder in it, with all its subfolder. I can even use Dim4.0 to copy it all off and into my pictures directory on my pc ! ![]() As i get chance to test it further i will see if i can add anything ! By the way, onestop sell the drive for £134.98 with the same drive in it, or 90 quid with no drive so you can add any 2.5 inch drive you choose in. Believe it takes up to 100Gb Im very happy so far ! ![]() |

Hi Ian, I saw your posts on another forum discussing this drive.
I have this very same drive and can only give it a full 10/10 for performance and value for money. As for transferring files to this device, I looked at your times shifting 2Gb of data to it taking just over 5 minutes. I can tell you my 80X Lexar 2Gb card it takes just little over 2 minutes to transfer the whole card of RAW shots which is quite staggering IMO.. ![]() My device here.. ![]() |

Looks good. I may have to try one of these. Now to decide what size hdd to get: 40gb, 60gb or 80gb. 80gb is a heck of a lot of pictures!

its surprising how these items have moved on
last feb i was looking for a decent portable storage to take to Oz, i did buy a nikon coolwalker, 30 gig, but it was pantz compared to the Epson P2000 40 gig viewer i finally ended up with, the main difference is on the epson i can view all my pix in raw , jpg or tiff ( any format really ) watch video footage or even upload a movie to the HD if i want, it will also play mp3's and has a good sound from the headphones jack , and tha fact it cost £350 compared to todays prices wouldnt be without it tho, and the li-ion battery lasts ages MyPix

yeah i would love a P2000 or even the new P4000 but am running on a budget a the moment, maybe one day, until then this will do for me, it can apparently transfer 50gb on a single charge too, and takes AA batteries too if the rechargeables run out

cool,
didnt know they were doing a 4000, lol just looked up the specs, and it seems that the only real difference is the 80 gig HD over my40 gig, and prolly new firmware to, o and the battery , mine is a dedicated Li-ion one, so no AA's for me i will be taking it to arkady's street photography lesson and also to silverstone if anyone want to ' handle it' oooeerrr, lol in my book a top bit of kit, and it carries the marks of life well to, well, there are no marks or scratches on it to be honest, and that includes the fantastic screen , built to last....... so today i uploaded new firmware for the P2000, it went from 1.01 to 2.02, then from 2.02 to 2.04 then from 2.04 to 2.51, lol and i had to do all 3 different stages manually thanks for the heads-up Steve MyPix |
