Off to Egypt in a couple of weeks time and want to take some of my kit. I'm dropping the wife off in the West End on Saturday so I'm spending the day up there looking for the best price of a D80 body Does anyone know of a store around Regents Street, Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road that has a decent selection of crumpler photo bags? Looking on the net there are loads but I would like to try before I buy.

There are loads of tog shops along TCR. Start at Centre Point and work your way up. Haggle and haggle again as Im sure some are owned by the same people but under different names.

Cheers for that. I guessed there would be but I haven't been down there in years. Hopefully will find a good price for the D80.

One thing to watch is that unless there is a branch of a recognised outlet down there, beware of grey imports. This was/is quite rife in the HiFi/electronics world in that area.

I'd say no, but I think the principal thing is the warranty. I think that camera bodies bought abroad - USA/Hong Kong etc will have to be repaired in the country of origin under warranty. Don't ask me why. It might be that the warranty documents will differ to the UK ones, Maybe the English part of the manual/warranty might not be at the front for instance.

Perhaps anyone who has bought from abroad can shed some light? Rob bought his 40D from one-stop, so is there a difference that would give the game away Rob?

Hi ,Yes I recently bought a Nikon d300 , Nikon 18 to 200 vr and a Nikon sd 400 flash.....In the Caribbean.......Great price assured the shop was Nikon authorized dealer with full international warranties ( no Grey Imports.)........however I had made the executive decision that if they were local warranties I could accept that as the savings were justified.........the flash and lens were international but the camera body is American .....upshot who cares (unless it goes wrong) if it has to go back to the shop/ American repair. There is an a lot of postage before I reach "break even"........The warranties were all in the boxes and were shown as limited world wide on the back page (America gets longer GTE on lens than we do,I think 5 yrs)for the lens and flash . The body was a flimsy sheet of paper and it shows the appropriate area as America Alaska and Caribbean , I have registered them on line but Nikon Europe wouldn't let me register the camera body so I did that at Nikon USA
Hope this helps, you pays your money and takes your choice........if the d300 dies someone will repair it I am sure or the money saved goes a long way towards a brand new one.

Thanks for that Bryher. Seems it is fairly easy to spot if the paperwork is for other countries.

You are right, if the savings are good enough, there is plenty of postage to be had, it is just a bit more hassle than returning the item to a retailer where you have the additional protection of the sale of goods act.

As you say, you pays your money and take your choice.

I agree much easier to walk into a shop and request they deal with the problem. sale of goods act. if they play the game ,I once had a bit of a problem with Dixons over this ....in the end we resolved it ,more to do with the manager than co policy. I would use them again though as the act still stands.

Have you thought about the Airport Dixons ? not always the cheapest ,you can phone and order the Item then pick it up when you fly to Egypt ?

I got my Crumpler from Jacobs. They are just off TCR in New Oxford Street opposite Jessops near to centrepoint. They have a big range of bags and quite a few crumpler models, they are pretty helpful but may be a little busy on a Saturday. They happily let me load kit in and out of lots of bags and even supplied some of the kit I didn't have with me to see if it would fit.
