Not sure if this is the right place to post this but Popular Photographer in the US just awarded the D300 camera of the year beating off the other finalists Canon 40D, Fuji S5, Olly E3 etc. The Canon MkIII didn't even make the final 8 The D3 wasn't out in time so will be up for 2008.

They seemed to like it

• It's the first DSLR to earn an Excellent image quality rating from ISO 200 all the way up to ISO 3200.
• It sports the fastest (and most sophisticated) AF we've tested so far.

Canon did a Microsoft with the Mk III and launched something that wasn't properly tested and debugged. Hopefully they've now corrected the AF mirror fault, but that still leaves a lot of people with expensive cameras that aren't as they should be, and iirc the recall doesn't start until next month.

Yep, though it grieves me to say it , Nikon seem to have taken the lead - although the differences are getting a little esoteric these days and they're all pretty good. Maybe it will inspire Canon to do something special next time around.
