Hey there folks I hope im in the right spot here I would like to knowthe following and I have not been able to findthat information anywhere: I have the wireless remote for the Nikon D80 and when in manual mode bulb I can do a 30 min exposure but that is it.
My question is if I buy a cable release are there any around with timers for the d80 ? and will I be able to have infinite exposure with my d80 with a cable release ? Sorry if I am posting in the wrong spot its 3am here atm ![]() Thanks alot DD |

Re: D80 cable release
Just as a matter of interest, are you trying to do astrophotography?

Re: D80 cable release
I've got a cable release that has a locking thumbscrew that keeps the shutter open when the shutter is set for time exposures. You can then use anything from a watch to a calender to time your exposures.
Don't ask me where I got it - I bought it over 40 years ago! What I do not know is if the shutter can be left open for an infinite time or if the camera has a limiter. |

Re: D80 cable release
Page 51 of the user manual says the shutter will stay open for 30 minutes when using the wireless remote.
It also says the shutter will stay open indefinitely all the time you have the shutter release pressed when in Bulb mode. The manual is not much cop really! |

Re: D80 cable release
Having read some more, it appears your only other option is the MC-DC1 remote chord.
I suggest before spending money on one of these you talk to nikon customer services or your local Nikon stockist. |

Re: D80 cable release
Thanks for responding everyone, looks like I will have to contact nikon themselves
![]() To answer your other question Soup, yes I do like astrophotography I was trying to get a longer exposure than 30 mins for star trails but indeed the manual clearly states that in manual bulb mode 30 mins is all you get Again thanks all DD |

Re: D80 cable release
You can still do star trail pictures with 30 minutes exposures, you just take more shots and then merge them all.
I am not sure how this is done but, if you visit some of the astrophoto web sites I know they discuss this topic regularly. |
