date

The date on my Nikon D80 keeps defaulting back to 2006. I go into the menu, update it and all is fine until I turn it off and then it goes back to 2006. Any ideas? jc

This is the most likely cause. Are you other custom settings also re-setting to default? Some dSLR's have a rechargeable battery to maintain the settings which is charged from the main camera battery, but some will use a lithium button battery, and eventually this will need replacing. It is also possible if the battery is a rechargeable type that it is no longer accepting a charge and will need replacing.

Re: date

Just another possibility but I do not know the camera. When you set the date could there be a final "Save" that you are missing?

Re: date

google is your friend Flickr: Discussing LCD flashing "clock" in Nikon D80 Users - it sounds like all you need to do is put in a charged battery and leave the camera on for a day or two (it will go into standby but that's ok)

if that doesn't work then it's possible the internal battery is not accepting a charge and needs replacing (doesn't sound like it's a user serviceable part)

Re: date

I have a Canon EOS 20D which must be nearly 10 years old now. It has an internal battery which cannot be removed except by Canon, this battery holds the date and time when the main batteries are removed for charging. This battery is now defunct due to age so when I remove the main battery for charging I have to reset the date and time. It is a slight inconvenience but better than paying nearly 100 to replace it. Proably more than the camera is worth nowadays. The camera still works perfect and I have no intention of changing to an all singing all dancing new one at present. This is most likely your problem.

Colin.
