Re: difference in price ? ,
The expensive one will be the 'DO' version which was/is an attempt to create a more compact lens, but isn't very successful given the price.
![]() The normal 70-300 IS is £350 from Amazon, and I'd go there rather than 7dayshop for something like this. Amazon.co.uk: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM Lens: Canon: Electronics & Photo |

Re: difference in price ? ,
Looking at 7Day shop - they list two 70-300IS lenses. One is £355 and the other is £759, and looking at them they appear to be two different lenses.
I guess that is the reason for the different price. The dearer one has DO in the model number - and this refers to 'something optics' - maybe better quality? |

Re: difference in price ? ,
I wouldn't buy the DO version - it's not worth it. IQ is no better than the standard one, and maybe not as good is some respects.

Re: difference in price ? ,
Don't buy the DO version. All it does is give you a shorter lens, eg it doesn't expand. And a £1050 is still way over the top for a DO. Get the normal 70-300 you won't regret it.

Re: difference in price ? ,
If you'd like to read up on DO lenses...
Canon UK - DO Lenses Basically they use diffraction elements that allow more lens elements to be crammed into a smaller space. I think it's probably a technological cul-de-sac and I haven't noticed Canon bringing any new ones out recently. |
