Re: dirty deed

Have you decided or bought?

Besides the one stop wider (that you'll never use) its bigger, heavier and much more expensive than the Sigma. Quality wise they are about the same...so I have to ask, what made you go for the canon over the Sigma?

Re: dirty deed

and i DO appreciate it PE as he appreciates the fact that i have made a lot of sacrificies to enable him to give up full time work and go to Uni

Steve, ordered and paid for, ( one stop digital) i went with the canon after listening to different people and reading reviews, at the end of the day i would never knock sigma after all my walk about lens is a sigma, BUT i still feel that a lens by the same manufacturer as the body has always got to be better........ no doubt folks will argue the point but thats their right!

Well I only read threads here by you asking for opinions on two different SIGMA lenses so that doesn't really give the Pixalo users much chance for offering you the benefit of their experience on the Canon

Regarding the comment that all Canon lenses will give better results than third party equivalents, sorry but I have to say that statement simply isn't true. There are many independent factual and technical documents available that say just the opposite.

Don't get me wrong, the Canon 10-22mm lens is very good and I am sure that you will be happy with it, however I felt the need to correct the incorrect information posted above. I'll look forward to seeing some of the shots with the new lens once it arrives

It won't take long to arrive from OneStop, usually around a week. Then, weather permitting, you'll be able to go and and put it through its paces

Re: dirty deed

I brought the Sigma 10-20mm last week and it arrived on Thursday. I've not had chance to play with it yet but Jessops did it me delivered with 12 months interest free for 274. Sigma are now giving you 3 years warranty with all EX lenses so I was quite please with that. I just hope I get the time to use it some time soon!!

Jellyhead, I hate to break the bad news but you do know there is a 'last payment fee' of 30 on (suprise suprise) your last payment? I was tempted to go for the 12 months offer too until I managed to squeeze this info out of the shopfloor salesman.

Re: dirty deed

Although Fiona does not have to justify why she bough a Canon rather than Sigma, I am happy to explain why I did. However, I am not suggesting that I would not have been happy with the Sigma had I chosen it, as it is good value.

The main reasons were:

a. Almost every independent review rated the Canon slightly better performance (and I looked at a lot) and a couple of reviews were highly critical of Sigma Quality control.
b. The lens replaced an earlier Sigma wide angle zoom which, although performed well, was no longer compatible with new Canon cameras (I had to scrap a 400+ lens; once bitten twice shy).
c. I got a particularly attractive deal at Focus on Imaging.

Dave

Hi ds00kg, I have spoken to Jessops online, not via the store. I have had it confirmed that the 30 early repayment fee only applies to purchases made in store not online. I already checked this with them.
