Does anyone own a Tokina 10-17 Fisheye Lens?

Hello all,

Does anyone here own the Tokina 10-17 Fisheye-Wide Angle lens? I really like some of the creative effects you can do with the square fisheye image, but I also like how you still have wide angle capabilities. I'm looking for a wide angle lens, but I really how the Tokina combines fisheye capability as well as a wide angle capability.

Does the Tokina truly have BOTH fisheye and wide angle capabilities? How do you think it measures up against the Canon 10-22, which is what I'm comparing it to? Am I going to get annoyed by the Tokina lens? Should I just buy a Wide Ange and Fisheye lens separately?

Here's pics created from either camera that I found:

Tokina 10-17 Pics

Canon 10-22 Pics

I really hope you can answer my questions. Thanks!

-Chris

It's not exactly what you're asking for, but I have the Canon 15mm Fisheye, and I really enjoy it. Horizontal view is 180deg. so when taking a virtical shot, you have to be carefull to keep your feet out of the frame. I haven't had a chance to use it extensively because -30f is a bit too cold for me to want to be outside, but of the dozen or so shots that I've taken, I'm happy with the results.

Re: Does anyone own a Tokina 10-17 Fisheye Lens?

I got one recently for pano photography.

Very nicely put together and fits Canon X1.3 bodies . The lens hood appears @ 10mm but is gone by 12mm. IQ isn't fantastic and you can get some quite dire purple fringing / CA. It can also flare fairly badly and you get spot highlights that look like rain spots on the lens.

Mind you I only paid £270 so I can't really argue with that.

The only static shots I have are in here. I have some QT panos runing elsewhere but you can't really tell what the quality is like.

VERY useful for my purposes but my 17-40L gets used for 'real' shots. I also have a Sigma 15mm fish which is on a par with the Tok.

Just a quick addendum.

Here it is with a Sigma 15mm fish and Canon 17-40.

Compact and bijout
