dx to full frame...

hi all,

at present i use a nikon d300 and a fuji s5 pro, nikon 17-55mm f2.8,70-200mm f2.8 and a tokina 11-16mm f2.8...now i have a dilema, after walking in a local dealer who i have known for 15 yrs + i spotted a nikon d3 with only 90 actuations.."a lady bought it and it was too heavy for her".....it has a price tag of over 1000 savings on a new one."2100"....now do i sell the kit i'm using now...apart from the 70-200mm and go full frame....i am in for the long run with my photography.......and i know new lenses for the fx body are'nt cheap

your thoughts please...

Re: dx to full frame...

I don't think I would have given it a second thought if I would have the money. Go for it 90 actuations is nothing. And the D3 is a very good camera.

Re: dx to full frame...

How about going for a new D700 at about 1750 (cheaper at One-Stop) and keping the D300? You could sell the S5 and the 11-16 and either buy a Nikkor 14-24 or 24-70 with a view to getting the other one in due course, and in the meantime you still have the 17-55 and the 70-200, both of which will work on the D300 and the 70-200 on the D700. That would give you the full frame for wide to standard focal lengths and the crop factor D300 for longer lengths with some overlap.

If you want a higher frame rate the D3 would fit the bill, but in all other respects the D700 is worth thinking about.

I totally misread the first post. After reading Dabhands post I thought it was rather strange to suggest to buy the D700 for 1750 instead of the D3 for 1000 Anyway 2100 is still very cheap for a D3, but I think Dabs comments are more applicable and true.
