DXO Optics
There's an article in Amateur Photographer this week (10th sept) about image correction software. I have the feeling this may have been mentioned before but I think it bears doing again if so. They claim to be able to correct all sorts of physical problems with images including chromatic aberation, noise, lighting, focus, distortion...and so on. I've not had a chance to play with it properly yet, only run a few images through it on automatic but here's an example of what it can do by itself...
Sample image processed through breezebrowser from RAW with minimal changes. http://www.marnoch.org/images/chopper1.jpg Same image processed from RAW through DXO, settings on auto everything http://www.marnoch.org/images/chopperdxo.jpg The downside is it's expensive, more so if you have lots of kit as you need to buy a module for each lens and each camera, but there is a demo you can try. http://www.dxo.com/en/corporate/home/default.php Image links broken due to not being within the size guidelines

Ive just bought that issue today, but I havent read that article yet. From the above, it looks pretty good. I see there is an express version for ~£87, which could be worth a look.

Note to editor, it would have been a bit pointless me processing those images as examples of what the software can do and then sizing them down, I figured since they were both well within the file limits it was worth posting them full size.
I have to say that for a photography forum to have such draconian rules for image dimensions is a bit daft (imo) however it's your forum and your rules so... |

^^ I think it's supposed to prevent the forums from becoming unviewable to those who don't have luxury of a broadband connection. I know this sounds strange in this day and age but there are those out there who still have 56k connections and as such they shouldn't be excluded for being luddites!

Steep if you have read the rules and understood them, your post wouldn't need to be editted.
We don't have draconian rules, we have fair ones that will benefit all that use the forums. You can edit the file size to within the guidelines, and also link to larger images. So you have the tools to be within the rules. As already mentioned, not everyone has the advantage of broadband. |

Both the images I posted were about half the maximum filesize ie around 80k so they were well within the guidelines. I can understand the point of limiting file size if the forums have a monthly bandwidth of only 1gb, that was not the problem here though.
