E 500 RAW Photography

I have an Olympus E 500. I would like to use RAW, but when I do I get the error message that my software can't read the file. Do I need new software? Is there Olympus E %00 specific software to handle this?

Re: E 500 RAW Photography

You will need a RAW converter to process your files. Using RAW means that effectively you have a two stage process. First the RAW conversion followed by the editing. You should have some software in your camera package that will enable the RAW files to be read, but if not there are some RAW converters on the market at various prices. There are also some free programs that can read RAW files such as the highly recommended Faststone Image Viewer. This is for Windows only IIRC.

Yes it should be on the installation disc that comes with the camera. If you have your installation disc and it isn't installing the Raw files you may just need the Olympus RAW codec that can be downloaded from the Olympus support site for free. I had this problem when I went to Windows vista from XP

Re: E 500 RAW Photography

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP
That is the XP version of the RAW viewer, There are similar for vista and Win7 if you havnt already got them.

Software, what software have you got that is having the problem?...
It could just be the codec, as mentioned above, that once installed, all software may use.
As always in this, go to the makers web site...
The Disk that comes with the camera, traditionally has software so old on it that it has drivers for the Arc...

Re: E 500 RAW Photography

The link that Silver Dragon posted will indeed allow you to view the RAW files, but if you want to do anything more than just view the files, you will need a RAW converter that will allow lossless changes to be made (as the original files will remain untouched by any changes made in the RAW converter) and the ability to export in tiff or jpg format to your editing program, or any other destination.
