EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM Loving it!!!

I mainly do real estate indoor photography for my listings but this lens is awesome in
just about every situation where an ultra wide is needed. If you're working on a body with a Canon APS-C
sensor this is the lens for that purpose IMHO. Pricey and worth every penny. Even when I move
up to a full frame I'll keep this expressly for that purpose if nothing else.
Just thought I'd share. Any other Canon 10-22 users out there?

Peace!

Hi, still debating whether to go for a Sigma 10-20mm or wait for the Canon. Really like your pictures, have you tried any other wide angle lenses?

Re: EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM Loving it!!!

We have quite a few members who use the Canon 10-22, and probably more who use the Sigma 10-20. They are both very good lenses and give great results, but the Sigma is much cheaper which is probably the reason why more people use it rather than the Canon. There is nothing in it in terms of image quality.

Re: EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM Loving it!!!

i love the 10-22 and having been on the receiving end of a poor sigma lens then i wouldnt risk it, if you get a good siggy you get an excellent one but if you dont thats the main reason i went for the canon a few years ago and i wouldnt recommend anything but the canon.

In this thread, there is a comparison between the Sigma 10-20 holding its own against the Nikkor 14-24 which currently sells at about £1300!

I love the Sigma 10-20mm, so much that I am selling mine.

Well I do love it but being a DX lens I have decided to let it go! It is a belter thought!

Re: EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM Loving it!!!

I have had the Canon 10-22mm for 5 years now which I used on a 20D. I bought a 5D2 a couple of years ago and knew I would have to replace the 10-22mm. Well I bought a Sigma 12-24mm for the 5D2 though I would have liked the Canon 16-35mm. Last year I had the 20D converted to IR so the 10-22mm is back in full use again. If you do ever consider IR, the Sigma 12-24mm is fine for visible light but unusable for IR but the Canon 10-22mm is superb at both. Also was one of my favourite lenses.

Re: EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM Loving it!!!

ummm a question, if you ever go full frame you wouldn't be able to use this lens on a full frame body, would you? it's an EF-S lens. unless you plan on keeping the body too of course.

great picture btw. I still use my 18-55mm kit for landscapes. it does perform far better than its reputation but I'd like to see some sharp images for a change.

Wouldn't be able to use is a little wide of the mark (but is the accepted norm) - I've seen the 10-20 used with FF - you add a 1.4x TC to get around the vignetting and the resultant image has about the same FOV as on a cropped body

+50% on cost, not a whole lot wider, not an EX and still a DC? I think you'd need a pretty good reason to get one.

Think I'd be tempted to go prime if I wanted to go beyond the capabilities of the 10-20 (or 10-22)

Re: EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM Loving it!!!

Hey sorry for the slow response. I've been busy watching spiders mate at open houses here in the US during this awesome real estate gold rush. I'm a real estate agent in my grown up job.

ASAIK you cannot use EF-S lenses on a full fram Canon at least not the lens I dedicated this thread to. I did have a Rokinon manual 10-20mm for about two weeks. I liked the glass (results) and hated the manual focus. I don't know about you folks but I had a heck of a time finding focus on a manual wide. Maybe it was just me but I had to send the lens back. Thank God for Amazons return policy.

I will be buried with my Canon EF-S 10-22MM.

Thanks so much... yes the kit lenses get alot of bad vibes. I bet Jimi Hendrix wouldn't of had any problem rockin a fender squire from a pawn shop. Probably did many times.

It's all about the user IMHO.

Ended up with a Sigma 10 - 20mm f/4 - 5.6. Down to price in the end. Really into landscapes and urban so when the weathers right I will give it a run.

I'm sure you will love it

If you are going to correct the converging verticals that you will get at the wide end, leave plenty of room around your subjects - particularly at the top of the image. Also, if you do correct them, leave a little convergence otherwise the images don't look right.

I often don't correct them as I think they can add drama to the image, but others disagree with me and prefer them corrected.
