Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
Cripes !!! Could it also be the mirror not flipping up fully ?
Never seen anything like that before, so maybe the experiened bods can shed some light ? |

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
Think I've read about this and it was something to do with the mirror spring - hope its not to serious Steve.

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
I've not seen that before but I agree about the mirror. Don't know what camera it is but have you tried Mirror Lock Up either for shooting or for sensor cleaning? If you lock the mirror up for cleaning, remove the lens and have a look inside first - I'm not being flippant but maybe you dropped something in there?

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
I've heard of small bits of grit getting stuck in there which can stop the mirror from opening completely, if you havn't allready tried it perhaps a Rocket Blower (or an equivalent) might help. Hope it's nothing too serious

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
yea ive tried the rocket blower and all but still nothing! jessops gave me a quote to send it off to Canon for £197 but i got a place in scotland that are giving me a free thingy(i forget the proper word) to tell me what the problem is and the guy said they had one in last week with the same problem. Its the bottom mirror aint working properly, needs a drop of Wd40! £120 to fix the mirror! insurance man will pay out!
hopefully ill be back in business within a month!! yeha |

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
Steve - your first posts were in September. Has the camera been away for all that time?

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
it took me a while to find someone that would fix it (i asked friends that said they would try to find out for me but took ages getting back). eventually after they never got back i rang Canon in England and they recommended AJ Johnston in scotland. They were very helpful and seem to have done a cracker job! id say the camera was away for slightly over a month or so, that included an assessment of the problem, sending me a price, me sending cheque, cheque clearing, repair done, camera tested and cleaned and posted!
its amazing how much you miss the camera when its gone!! lol |

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
Not too bad, then. Do you have a backup/compact to fall back on?

Re: emm, slight problem...sensor??
unfortunately not! well...i have my dads older Canon A1 film camera but ive been asked to get my sister a compact camera for christmas so i hope to get her a good one and 'borrow it' in emergencys!! lol
i had hoped to upgrade the 300d before this happened but now im thinking of just keeping the 300d as backup/handy camera and if i happen to earn some profit next year then get something better! not easy for us students!! lol has anyone else ever had this problem with the AF submirror?? |
