EOS 30D wont FOCUS out of Auto Mode

I attempted to use my AI Servo mode on my EOS 30D and discovered that it would not autofocus. As I played around with the Camera I discovered that the camera will not focus automatically on anything once taken out of full Auto. Wondering if there are Menu settings or custom functions that will correct this? Do i need to reinstall the firmware on the camera? or do I need to have this Camera serviced? Please help someone. By the way the camera focuses fine in Auto mode and controls the lense. It does not control the lense once taken out of Auto. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... I need help or some insight on this issue b4 sending it in for a repair.

Kelvin

Probably be worth cleaning the camera to lens contacts with a pencil eraser (tho' probably not that - but worth trying).

Then try a firmware 'reset to defaults' in the menu (which may well sort it out)

Unlikely to be contacts but don't forget that stick a 100-400mm on a 1.4x TC and AF doesn't work, so the contact does have an "intelligent" useage (so not sure what effect an indifferent contact would be on those ?two pins)

Hi Lilit,

when you have the camera on AI focus does the camera focus + beep ok? when mines on AI Focus it will light up and beep (if it's turned on) but when its on AI Servo it will only light up where it has focused but will not beep. This is normal as the photos are nearly always focused prioperly. Maybe yours is a different problem but thought i'd say anyway!
