Re: Example shot taken with Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM
hello guys,
Have decided i am looking for a 70-200mm focal length for canon 10D. whats the autofocus speed like on the sigma in lowish light conditions, my main use for a lens like this would be for social events, concerts, live gigs etc, not so much sports,(but maybe wildlife with converter attached if that would give good results?) execellent photography by the way in this thread and quality has got me considering this lens between this and canons 70-200 2.8 (non IS, and IS versions) which would you plump for, and is the IS version worth double price of the sigma ps i hate using tripods...ps again ..were the motocross photos taken with a tripod or hand held? |

However the argument isn't as clear when it comes to the IS version. That will give you a couple of stops latitude again when it comes to low light. That could be very useful to you indeed in gig environments. You've also got the added benefit of weather proofing on the IS version, which although might not be a major thing for you indoors would give me great peace of mind. Quote:

![]() ASD, I haven't had chance to play with lens in great anger yet so can't comment. I reckon Dod has probably taken more shots with the lens than most people, so good advice above |

Sorry about the obvious question about tripod, guessed you didnt but thought id ask incase you utilized a monopod or something. The other reason i asked is because your photographs are pin sharp, thats some fine work handheld. its a shame sigma dont make a stabilized version of your lens,it would make my decision easier and im sure it would be cheaper price wise than the canon version.
have you thought about showing your work to sigma, as your photos with this lens are a great advertisement for this lens, and in the photographic magazines they do use photographers images in their marketing of lenses, im probably talkin crap but just an idea. will ebay let you sell human kidneys, on their site as i will have to sell one to fund the canon IS version....i hear you can function quite well with only one. ps.. dave is that your boxer? nice shot! |

![]() I actually bought and tried a monopod for this and gave up after 5 minutes, far too restrictive even when using a ball head which wasn't tightened. The problem is that there's no consistency with these guys, different speeds, lines, heights, working with anything which restricts movement is just a hindrance. Not always practical anyway, I was lying on my side for the angle for this one on sunday.

Might be worth trying, worst they can say is no. In a similar vein looks like I've got a couple of pics in this months Scottish Field as well from the endurance stuff
