Exposure
Does anybody have any experience with the Nikon 50mm f1.8; I recently purchased one and despite my best efforts I cannot achieve a satisfactory exposure in bright sunshine. Highlights are burned out and if I adjust the ev to compensate I end up with very underexposed images. Is it the lens or my cameras? I,ve tried it on my D40x and my D80 but the results are the same. Any views (pardon the pun) would be welcome!

Re: Exposure
Do you get better results with other lenses under the same lighting conditions?

Re: Exposure
Yes, but I must say that this is the fastest lens I have ever used and I did the shots at max aperture although I should,nt think that would make any difference. I did not use a lens cap because i did,nt have one. As an aside,... Ive just bought a cap from Link Delight in Hongkong for £2.99 which included the postage! Its a well made rubber affair and seems very durable; Nikon wanted £24.00 plus postage for thiers (also rubber).

There's your problem using f1.8 in bright sunshine your camera will not be able to shoot fast enough, it's not the lens it's the operator

Re: Exposure
I have that Lens and it works GREAT,
Try the Sunny f16 "rule" f/16 ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/100 in a bright sunny day that should work great, but you should still play with the settings, as you know, you can't use this setting for every situation so use this setting as a starting point. |
