Question F--- problem with My D80 and Nicor lense

Hi

I am a new Digital SLR owner. I have the Nikon D80 and a Nikor 18-135 mm Lense. I set the lense to A (Automatic) and the body of the camera to A, but get at F--- error on the camera. The manual says that is a problem with non Nikor lenses. If I switch the lense to M the problem goes away. Since I have a Nikor lense, I don't think I should be having this problem. Another question is if I have the lense set to M what am I sacrificing?

Thanks

Can I assume you have removed the lens and re-fitted it?

Re: F--- problem with My D80 and Nicor lense

I saw a similar problem with this lens and body combo where the problem was caused by the plastic lens mount coming loose.

Try wiggling the lens on the camera, if this causes the camera to detect the lens intermittantly, then this is the problem and you'll need to take it back to your dealer for an exchange.

I hope this helps.

Re: F--- problem with My D80 and Nicor lense

did you set the camera to M before you switched lens?
set the camera to MANUAL FOCUS, switch the lens and then set it back to auto or just leave it in manual, But make sure to set it to manual focus before switching lens.
