Fader ND or Lee big stopper?

Not sure which one to go for, any opinions on which one is best please. Also will the Lee big stopper fit in a Cokin holder?
Cheers, Dave

I've now got my ND Fader but not had a chance to get out and use it on either my G11 or my 7D

Don't forget the B&W that many members use too.

I use a 10-stop B&W and I love it!

Re: Fader ND or Lee big stopper?

Sorry to hear you have such a long wait. I'm still not sure what to go for ,so in the mean time I have ordered a welders filter. Not ideal you may say but for only £2 it will give me some idea of the results with the "proper filters"

I will also get a chance to play with custom white balance as these things have some sort of colour cast.

I have in the #11 range of welding filters,,,blue, green and one with gold lightly covering one surface. The gold will scratch very easily. For the blue C/B I ended up with a very green picture. For the green I ended up lighter cyan color. The one with the gold on one side gave a lighter blue hue to the picture, almost usable. C/B=custom white balance. I would guess that a filtered lighter glass or plastic would end up much the same way. Back in the day adding a filter to the front would correct color hue to the opposite side of a color wheel depending on how strong the filter was. White balance color correction as it was called.
If I could give advice and you really want one of the ND filters I would save and go on line and buy a cheap one to learn with not giving any thought to who or how it was made as long as it is cheap. A screw on type or a small flat plate type and hold that in front of your lens. I use graduated 4 X 6 inch plates once in awhile for sunsets. Sorry about the welding information, have fun.

Re: Fader ND or Lee big stopper?

I've been out with the ND Fader and have to say it's impressive and the ability to alter the number of stops is very useful
