First impressions of the Sony A77

Only had it a couple of hours but my first impression is WOW!
The niggle was always the electronic viewfinder but I'm pleased to report it's very, very good. Focusing is very swift and accurate and provided you have had a Sony before the controls, though a little different follow the Sony style.
The shutter almost blurs into one note on rapid fire, indeed when pressed as long you would for a single shot it's hard to get off less than 3 frames. 12 frames per second top speed but bare in mind you will be filling cards rapidly.
I shall do what I always do and play until I don't have to think what I'm doing.
Must admit my jaw dropped when I opened the manual and found the 242 pages were just the English instructions.
I was also pleased with Warehouse Express. I pre ordered as soon as they announced they were taking orders then a couple of weeks later they said all new orders would get a Kata 123-GO-30 sling backpack thrown in with the deal and I cursed thinking I had missed out but I got one as well. Like the rapid access to this type of bag without having to take it off and a nice touch is the rain cover that can be fastened and stowed inside so you don't forget it. It also can be rigged for left or right hand access and being a sinister person I find that convenient (left handed)
Well got to go now - back to playing and studying the manual

Is this a compact P&S then? The Nikon D700 manual has 444 pages

Seriously though, the A77 certainly looks good on paper and I'm sure that you will be getting the best from it No doubt you will keep us posted and maybe you could pop a review into the Equipment Reviews section in due course.

Can do that but to be fair it will take a week or two of use in various situations to make a fair assessment

Re: First impressions of the Sony A77

Be interesting to see how you get on with macro shots with only the electric view finder - think that may be interesting.

Bit difficult to show the detail in the compressed 300k limit but here's a try

Full size frame
