First "proper" outing

Just been looking at the images I took last week end with my Tamron 70 / 200 2.8 VC USD. This was the first event of the year for it and I must say I am impressed with the lens. The first thing I noticed was the improvement in colour resolution and sharpness over the "old" Canon 70 /200 f4 L IS I used to have.
It was a sunny day and most of the "combat" shots were around 1/6000 sec @ ISO 200 so not much of a test of the VC, but it acquitted itself well.
This result coupled with the results obtained with the 24 /70 2.8 are leading me towards the 150 /600. I was loth to break with my Canon "L" s but now feel it was a good decision.
Charles.

Re: First "proper" outing

Very interesting Charles. I saw somewhere that Tamron are supplying software to correct CA with the 150-600, and it got some raised eyebrows, but I'm wondering if this is maybe for an extreme circumstance rather than the norm. I guess that this will come out in the reviews.

Good that you are happy with the ones you have got though. There is guy at my camera club who would not even look at anything other than L lenses and will not accept that other makes can now make decent lenses, but your experience and some reviews I've seen certainly give credence to using third party lenses.

I'm going to move this thread into Cameras, lenses and accessories

[QUOTE=dabhand16;392757]Very interesting Charles. I saw somewhere that Tamron are supplying software to correct CA with the 150-600,

I did some research on this and of 8 sites no one mentioned it, the CAs are 8 u.m, the same as the Sigma and the Canon, however it only just beats the Sigma and equals the Canon 100 / 400 for sharpness, and equals them for vignetting. I think the best review for in depth analysis is on the DXO mark site.
So I don't think I will change my 100 / 400 L yet, I also have the 1.4 extender for longer reach and it has served me well to date. Charles.
