Fisheye

Wanting a large lens but am thinking about waiting to find a good price on a sigma 120-400mm lens. If any comments on that please reply, but what this post is about is curious on a new fisheye lens because they are inexpensive and look fun. My questions were on if there is any money at all in selling photos taken with this lens and if you think whether or not it is even worth my time. Any information involving a fisheye lens is appreciated

Re: Fisheye

Fisheye lenses will add distortion to any scene giving a surreal effect. As to if these pictures will sell simply because a fisheye lens has been used, I'd say no. To sell a picture it has to appeal to the buyer. This means that the kit you use to take the picture is not relevant. If it were, we would all be out there taking shots with fisheye lenses.

Fisheye lenses are not cheap. The Nikkor 10.5mm is over 500 GBP at One-Stop and a Sigma 10mm is 452 GBP

Re: Fisheye

I didn't realize that, I've been looking mainly at prices and I've seen them for $20-50. To be clearer on what I meant on if I could sell them, I was wondering if people saw it as a good picture or just something fun to look at.

Re: Fisheye

I personally cannot see much point in showing so much distortion on the other hand I am very willing to use artistic effects so it is a matter of personal taste. You could use the Topaz LensEffect Plug-in to produce this at a much lower cost. If it is something that you would rarely use then the Topaz Plug-in may be the answer.

Re: Fisheye

I do like the fisheye effect and have been mulling over getting one myself.

The best value and also highly rated are the Samyang/Rokinon 8mm also know by about 3/5 other names but images I have seen from it look awesome. It is manual focus but that would not worry me.

They are not always in stock but vary from 200-250 depending on who is selling.

As for saleable yes if you get it right no if you don't

Re: Fisheye

The fisheye lens give a very specific effect, some people like it, others do not. Will people buy the images? How long is a piece of string? It depends what the image is of, if its well exposed and composed image, and if people like the effect. I believe its a niche market, much easier to sell images in a more normal style I would think.
Fisheye lens are expensive and I would not consider using one just because it was cheap

Re: Fisheye

I own a Samyang 8mm lens. For me it's a must, 'cause i make money out of it, doin' 360 panoramas. But it's also a great lens to have fun with, and it offers you really interesting perspectives. In fact, it doesn't leave my bag when I go around taking pics.
