Re: Focus Micro-Adjustments

I've never messed with the lens micro adjustment on any of my camera bodies (MKIII x2 & MKIV).......so have all my lenses set to 0 as its disabled.

I've always said that if you need to micro adjust then there is a fault and would recommend sending it in to Canon. I was advised to do this when I spoke to Canon CPS sometime ago.

I know photographers who are happy to micro adjust but I also know of others who have got themselves in a right mess trying to get it right.

Re: Focus Micro-Adjustments

Yup, I agree that I've seen too many get into all kinds of bother with the adjustment so have never added to the list of bothered! I've only one lens that's slightly out anyway and that's the Sigma 150-500mm when focussed in at closest @ 500mm so I just manually adjust

Re: Focus Micro-Adjustments

Never bothered with it, all mine seem pretty much ok. If they are not, they go back to be calibrated.

Re: Focus Micro-Adjustments

Sorry to pull an old thread up but anyone else microadjust?

I thought I would give it a go just to see the difference it made on some of my prime lenses and recently purchased some software that did everything automatically (FoCal).

Well I got some differing results and I can't say that it's improved things from the default setting.

Interestingly in the user guide it does say results may differ at different focal lengths which to be honest is no good for me as a sports shooter.....ok if you're working at the same distance on a tripod.

Re: Focus Micro-Adjustments

I downloaded a couple of different measuring gauges and tested out my 100-400mm L and it showed a back focus. I tried to adjust it back and did so, after shooting my normal way. I set it back to 0 and the pictures looked better, it is at 0. I look close at my primes and they seem to shoot the same as new. I have never gone back. It is a nice thing to have if it shows only a little help for one lens and if you set up your markings correctly. . Me I keep forgetting I have a pocket phone camera and miss some really great photo's cause I have never used it, gee whiz how to remember at my age. Getting the picture is half the battle, good luck with your sports PE, it's good to know your having fun

Re: Focus Micro-Adjustments

Well I've reset all my lenses back to zero. I don't think the adjustments made much difference to be honest.

I might give it another try and see what happens.
