ive been having probs getting my D70 to focus properly, its only when i use a nikon 70-300 lens with a jessops 2x converter, i use this when shooting at air displays and i cant seem to get the camera to autofocus even when the plane is quite close and big in the frame, i have tried changing the cameras setting's but it doenst help, this is only intermittant on some occasions it is perfect first time,

any ideas would be appreciated

Re: focusing prob

I am not sure but I think putting a converter on your lens will make it's maximum aperture too small for AF to work.
I can only suggest you try manual focus!

Re: focusing prob

May be the contacts, probably on the converter. Try cleaning them - eraser's good but cloth will work

But, as Soup says, more than likely that the max aperture is too small, making image too dark for AF to work consistently

Re: focusing prob

It's the converter - as said, you lose two stops with a 2x tc and you lose AF.

Re: focusing prob

Seeing as you say it's only on 1 lens & works some times, it sounds like a contact problem ? What does it say in the manual for the 2x convertor re lens compatibility ?
