fuji S9100 Macro Lens

Hi... I just purchased a Fujifilm S9100 digital camera and since I do macro photography exclusively, I am looking to add a macro lens... Fujifim tech support tells me that it's not possible to add an after market lens. When I google "S9100 macro lens" I get results
that disagree with Fujifilm... Anyone have experience will adding a maco lens to the S9100
and selecting a macro lens? Help appreciated.

Re: fuji S9100 Macro Lens

I'm not familier with this camera, but I don't think it has interchangable lenses. The best you can do is to get some close-up adaptors that screw into the filter mount, but they won't be able to match the performance of a dedicated lens.

As you say you do macro exclusively, I don't think you have made a good choice of camera. A dSLR will allow you to use specialist lenses that are made for the job, and the Fuji, good camera that it is, simply can't do true macro.

As you have just bought the camera, I'd return it to the seller and get another more suitable kit.

Graham... Thanks for the reply...I hear what you are saying... But I'm getting fantastic results with the Fujifilm A303 and I want to upgrade... The problem is that I am a novice
and feel that learning how to use a DSLR will be overwhelming for me.... Yes, as I learn
more and gain confidence I will then upgrade... Ease of use is my main concern now...

Re: fuji S9100 Macro Lens

I think we are on different wavelengths!

Again, the 303 is a good camera, but it also cannot do macro. I think you mean you do close-up photography. Macro is reproducing something life-size, not just close-up.

If this is the case, you might well find the 9100 will do a job if it can focus close enough. You can, as I said before add some magnifying lenses to the filter mount, and these are inexpensive.

A dSLR is no different to any other camera, it is just more versatile. The main difference between your 9100 and a dSLR is the lens can be changed on the dSLR. The other controls are much the same.

If you can drive a Mini, you can drive a Bentley. They just have different wrappings.

Very nice shot there Paul - but definitely close-up, not macro.

These are what I would call macro.

Re: fuji S9100 Macro Lens

Thanks for posting the macro photographs I see the difference... For now, I will continue
with the close-up photography.... Recently, 12 of my close-up photographs are on display in a fine arts gallery... The director has suggested that I continue to work with flowers.... I took the photo that I shared with you with the Fijifilm 303 3.2 megapixels... I hope that the Fujifilm S9100 will serve as a bridge camera until I gain more experience... I hope the S9100 will produce better results and allow me to experiment with the settings... I'm not kidding when I tell you how little I know... I don't know F stop from doorstop....

Perhaps Gary's offer here is the way to go forward. These lenses look good - but don't know if postage costs to you would be prohibitive.

Check out the link in post #6 Gary - he is in the USA. I suppose you could drop them off on one of your trips......

Having said that, I don't have a clue how much postage or courier costs would be. Depending on how dear the lenses are new, it might sitll be viable.

Your pics with the lenses are really good. They have to be the way to go for him.

Do, I live in the US, not the UK... is that a problem with buying the lenses?
