getting a lens checked out?

I've been wanting to get my 70-200 lens a good check over since i dropped it a while back.

It still works the best but i want to be sure in my own mind and especially because i had intended to upgrade it before i dropped it so i wouldn't want to be selling a faulty product.

Is Canon the only option or is there other places that don't cost an arm?

Thanks,
Steve

Re: getting a lens checked out?

Sent mine back to Canon Steve, my hubby dropped it onto a kerbstone!!!! Unfortunately mine was damaged and had to have the whole IS system replaced and be recalibrated. There was a scuff on one of the focus rings they also changed, so when it came back it was as good as new. But cost about £200.00. I know there is another place that does it, but not sure who or if any cheaper.
Any chance of getting it done on insurance? I couldn't at the time, but now I'm with M&S, they apparently would.

Good point - if you have accidental damage even on your household policy, you might be able to get all/some of the cost back.

Re: getting a lens checked out?

I had CIS Insurance before and had accidental damage cover, but they said that dropping a lens was not an accident, but would be "all risks" which I didn't have!! Hence why I am now with M&S who offer a lot more cover, including Andy's cycles and my cameras.

I've got my gear insured with CIS .........just goes to show you never know how good your insurance is until you have to claim.

Re: getting a lens checked out?

Any of the Canon approved service centers should be able to help you out. I only know of one in Stoke (as that was the closes to me when I had an issue). Canon should be able to provide you a full list, the information should be on their website somewhere?

Re: getting a lens checked out?

Lehmanns are one of the bigger service providers and I had Fixation give my 70-200 f4L a service last year.
