Having vowed to stick with the 30D at least until next Spring, I've just ordered a 40D.

I even looked at the D300 and D700, and considered 'doing a Dave' , but then I looked at the lenses... and the cost.

It's the last day of A J Purdy's sale, so I got the 40D + spare battery + 2GB CF card for £567, and there's £60 cashback until the end of October, which brings it down to an irresistible £507 including VAT.

I'll think of all the money I've saved by not buying a D700....

P.S. If anyone fancies a very nice 30D, there's one for sale in the Classifieds.

What was the factor that made you make the decision? The 40D will surely get cheaper still over the next few weeks.

Dabs - I don't see it falling much further - £500 seems fairly cheap considering I paid £800 for the 30D. I'm going on holiday shortly, and then to Oman later in September, so I thought I'd take the plunge as I may never go there again.

From what I read, the 40D will not be discontinued straight away, and will run in parallel with the 50D which will cost a lot more. The 50D looks appealing though we don't have any reviews yet, and really 15MP is way more than I need.

Well, we'll see if it makes any difference - probably not! I've always fancied Live View, and the 14-bit processor may suit my style of shooting because I tend to expose for the highlights and then boost shadows - apparently that's where the extra bits are an advantage.

I-modetech who used to do them seem to have ceased trading on ebay a shame because there screen protectors where good.

Beware when it says 12x screen protectors, it means 6 sets of the 2 needed, one for the main screen and one for the top mini display showing iso etc

Too cumbersome for me, those big white things. I have a slightly smaller one (300 f/4L IS) and I really ought to think about selling it as it's just making the shelf sag at the moment.

Good luck with that one though - it's reckoned to be an excellent lens, and I expect to see some shots of the birdies in your garden.

Nah I saved me pennies from extra evertime, and got the 40D, battery grip, 100-400, 24-105 and a 10-22.

The chances of me ever doing it ever again are zilch. I'm now looking at trying to buy a little car and change jobs. The stress is getting unbearable now.

Sadly I now hate the job I've doing for 14 years succesfully. Anyway thats another story.

I know you've been through some bad patches, and you know I wish you well. If you want a hassle-free motoring life, I'd look at Toyota rather than Renault. Sue's Yaris is over 7 years old and nothing has ever gone wrong.

looks like they changed ebay name slightly but theses ones are the exact ones I got. They come with the two screen protectors.

It would seem that I-mode have changed their name slightly. The listing I've pointed to is the exact ones I got for my 40D.
