Ideal Lens for Nikon D90

HI,
I have recently purchased a Nikon D90, i am hoping to try my luck with some portrait and wedding photography, could anyone tell me what lenses would be best suited to this type of work?? is there any other necessary equipment i am likely to need that i may have overlooked?
I do not intend to use a studio, all my work will be on location??

Re: Ideal Lens for Nikon D90

In this thread Spxxxx - who knows what he is talking about - suggests a 24-70 f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8 and a flashgun for weddings.

A second body is a very good idea too in case you get a problem with one, the other will be unlikely to fail at the same time. You can keep both lenses on a camera too to save having to change lenses.

You might also want to consider a rain cover.

Are you intending to have proofs available at the time (while the guests are in the mood to buy)? If so you will need to be able to show them on a laptop or have access to a fast print service.

These lenses will also do portraits, but fast primes are also very good for this sort of work. Niikor 85mm f1.4 for instance. You will also need the flash for portraits and a reflector and/or one or two additional flashes. Backgrounds and light stands. Depends on how seriously you are going to go into it.

If you do not want to spend a lot then the standard 18-70mm should do, for starters, if you are building a outfit then you will need three lenses, 1 10-20mm 2 18-70mm 3 80-400mm or there abouts I think everybody will have there own ideas on this.
