IR compatible lenses
Here is a link that I have used for reference when concidering lenses.
Canon EOS Infra-red (IR) Compatible Lenses My wife and I have been blessed to have 5 L class lenses between us and they all are good to use with infrared, meaning they produce no hot spot. 100-400mm, 28-300mm, 50mm f/1.2, 85mm f/1.2 and our 17-40mm. I am looking at the 24-105 IS L lens for about two months and can't find any proof that it works with IR,, any help with lenses that work with IR would be great.

Re: IR compatible lenses
I was not aware of the reference above and have never heard of this issue. I have used my 10-20mm and 24-105mm IS L lens for IR and have not been aware of the issues mentioned. However, I did find that using an IR filter with my EOS 20D, the exposure times are around 30 seconds and this meant such photography was not really practical for landscapes. Any movement is blurred which means any foliage or cloud movement. After I have replaced my 20D, I may consider converting it to IR so normal exposures can be used but I will need to find £250 for this.

Re: IR compatible lenses
In case it's of interest, the Canon 10D is supposed to be much better for IR than later models because the IR filter is far less strong.
I have a 10D sitting here doing nothing, and you're welcome to borrow it if you'd like to give it a try. Unfortunately it won't work with Canon EF-S lenses as it pre-dates that type of mount, but it should be OK with 'crop factor' lenses from other manufacturers. |

Re: IR compatible lenses
Then the 24-105mm IS L lens works for IR
, this makes it twice as easy for me to buy it, I have been playing around with the 28-135mm IS lens, but I have been put back buy the lack of sharp pictures compared with the 17-85 IS my wife has which takes sharp pic's everytime and I was hopeing for at least as good of performance..." I can always give the 28-135mm away at Christmas time" and then open up my brand new 24-105mm IS L I looked and looked and never found a thing about it,,,the web is a big place.![]() Thanks for the Christmas present.
