Its Good to Talk

Has anybody bought a D700 yet? nobody seems to have mentioned this camera yet. I just wonder how many people have been put off buying a new pro camera because of the recent increase, and are now looking at lower spec cameras.

One of the CCC members bought a D700 recently & was very impressed with it. I was tempted myself Des, but the Nikon FF glass put me off

Re: Its Good to Talk

I also recently looked at buying a D700 but like Dave was put of with the Nikon full frame glass and also I already have some good quality Canon lenses.

From all accounts its a very capable camera though

Thanks Guys, I can understand if you are a Canon user, and yes Nikkor lenses are quite expensive, I certainly would never swop over once that I started to build a system up, but I still find it strange that nobody talks about the D700, its as if its a inbetween camera which nobody wants! yet its a scaled down version of the D3 so it should do the biz.

Hi

I've bought the D700/24-70mm kit 8 weeks ago. Just bought the 105mm/2.8 a few days ago (haven't had time to test yet).

I'm totally happy with the D700. Basically it's a D3 in a more handy camera body. The only trade-off to the D3 is the frame rate - which I don't need.

It's worth every $ - super sharp, you can use high iso settings (until 3200 with no noise).

I was coming from a Canon 30D - the only thing you should be aware of is the missing crop-factor. Great for wide-angle bad for zoom. Also be consider that a super sharp high iso sensor requires some serious glass...

Thanks for that answer, its just what I wanted to hear, I still have all my fast lenses from my film days which do not get used much these days, I am sure they will work well with a full frame! I am still thinking about a upgrade to FX but in the meantime I will carry on using my D300 till my minds made up, best wishes, Des
