Jessops Price Promise!!!!

I Am Thinking Of Buying A Tamron 18-200mm Lens For My D200. The Prices I Have Seen So Far Are Between £247- £267. I Saw An Advert Somewhere Saying Jessops Would Beat Any Internet Prices, But On Their Website They Are Selling This Lens For £324 For A Nikon And Canon Fit, They Say They Have A Price Promise, So Why Are They Charging Nearly £80 More? Any Ideas . Are They Just Putting The Prices Up For Christmas, Is It A Good Time To Buy This Or Should I Wait Till After Christmas, When Prices Might Come Down

Re: Jessops Price Promise!!!!

they are probably chacing their luck, but check the small print in their price peomise, if there are no loopholes and they refuse to uphold their promise hit them with a threat of
false advertising and tell them u are going to trading standards. that usually does the trick! lol

Re: Jessops Price Promise!!!!

Jessops price promise isn't worth the paper it isn't written on quite frankly! This latest one, the 'Not even on the internet' has more exceptions than a very exceptional thing indeed! The only internet companies they are agreeing to price match are companies which are wholly based in Mainland UK. So not only do all the great deals from Hong Kong and so forth not count, you can't even get a price match against a company like 7dayshop.com who are based in Guernsey.

They have always had a shop price match but I tried to get a match and got blown out completely. This is a fair while ago now admittedly (but by all accounts nothing much has changed) I went in to buy the Canon 75-300mm lens that they were selling for £179 at the time. I went in, advert in hand, to show them that Park cameras in London were selling the exact same lens for £139, a huge £40 difference. The sales guy went off, spoke to the manager, phoned head office, came back and said: 'Sorry, can't do it.' I argued that if they claim to price match then they don't get to pick and choose which ones they match with if they are within their stated promise or else the promise means absolutely nothing and shouldn't be used as an advertising tool.

Of he went, manager came back this time: 'Ok, we will knock £10 off so you can have it for £169. After all,' he said, 'otherwise you'll have to order from them, wait two weeks till they have them back in stock (nobody had ever said they didn't have any and i knew they did!) then pay for postage which will probably cost another £20 and will take another week to arrive.'

LOL, nice try mr silly Jessops manager but I went out of the shop, phoned the number in the advert, ordered the lens and paid for it. The lovely lady on the other end said 'It's actually just gone 2pm but I'll run down to the warehouse and see if they can get it into today's posting.' And guess what, she did! I received it in my hand the very next day for £139 plus £3.99 postage and packing! I thought about going in to Jessops and showing the manager how good sales companies work but decided it wasn't worth it. He was too thick to actually go back to his bosses and say 'Hey, we are getting creamed here, maybe we need to do something!'

So I no longer buy major purchases from Jessops unless they have a very special offer on that genuinely is the cheapest without having to ask for a price match. Given that since then I have spent over £4000 on camera equipment, the guy really did cut his own throat as I am a loyal customer to shops that show loyalty to me :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Jessops (cameras2u) will price match only if you buy from them on-line. They won't price match in-store.

I'll buy in a shop and pay a bit over the odds if I feel I'm getting good service, good advice etc. (Dale Photographic in Leeds for example), it's along time since I felt like that in Jessops, you might as well shop at Dixons.

PS, Woody I don't know about anyone else but I find your posts a real effort to read with all those capital letters and lack of seperated paragraphs you may find that fewer people read your posts becuase of it (I've certainly skipped a few).

Re: Jessops Price Promise!!!!

I would go out of my way to avoid Jessops in the future.

When I bought my 5d, the sales guy was trying to convince me that I should buy the minolta with the "anti-shake thing" coz it's great for taking photo's while on buses

He then produced a A4 folder with cpoies of "his work" as he was a photograper and just worked in his spare time for Jessops

No, you misheard him Cotter. He didn't say the Minolta was better, those were just the words that came out of his mouth. In his head the words were 'Now, which camera was it my manager told me I get £10 extra commission for selling? Oh yes, that Minolta one that isn't selling too well. Ok, I am sure I can bluff my way through this one, let's give it a go....'

Fortunately he was up against someone who knew what he was talking about. Beggards belief that he would think he could sway a 5D customer to change his mind and buy the Minolta because it has an anti-shake device LOL.

I entirely agree with Danpen, if you have a local Photographic shop, often fairly small but with guys who really do know their business, it is definitely worth paying a few quid more to know you have got the right product and if you go back with a problem won't just say 'Hang on sir, I'll have a look in the instruction book!'

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Jessops Price Promise!!!!

Woody, neither I nor anyone else said we find it offensive, please don't put words in our mouths. What we said was we find it more difficult to read.

I have not seen anything about this before, probably because I have skipped them. Had I know you have a disability that is causing this then I would happily have made an extra effort. Now I know, I will do so.

Just because we find it difficult does not mean it is a big issue. Please don't assume that because you have answered something before, that all 1,435 Pixalo members have read it.

I hope you will not leave Pixalo but will instead stay and enjoy the place, capitals or not. I wonder if I might make a suggestion. I think most people would actually find all capitals easier to read than a capital for every first letter so maybe try just putting the Caps Lock on and typing that way.

For people to compare, here's what the two would look like:

This Is Typing With The First Letter Of Each Word A Capital Letter So That You Can See What It Looks Like Next To A Message All in Capital Letters. What Do You Think Between the Two? The All Capitals Version or The One Capital Letter Per Word Version?

THIS IS TYPING WITH EACH LETTER OF THE WORD A CAPITAL LETTER SO THAT YOU CAN SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NEXT TO A MESSAGE ALL IN CAPITAL LETTERS. WHAT DO YOU THINK BETWEEN THE TWO? THE ALL CAPITALS VERSION OR THE ONE CAPITAL PER WORD VERSION?

If it isn't possible to change anyway then you just carry on as normal Woody and we'll make the effort to read it :o)

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Jessops Price Promise!!!!

Woody, please don't take offense. I also have not said that I find anything offensive about your posts, just that I do find them harder to read, as Rob has said now I know there's a good reason why I will make more effort. I've only been using this forum regularly for a short while and had not seen any previous explanation.
