Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

Hi guys, just going through a traumatic time, I purchased the just cleaning kit, because there were spots showing up on my ccd, delivery was very fast, and it arrived today, I used the blower first, with camera pointing down, I then opened a swab and applied 4 drops of the cleaning fluid, i think its ethanol or something, after swiping once to the right and then once to the left, and replaceing lense and the taking a test shot to see if dust had been cleaned, to my horror the test shot came up with liquid had entered the ccd, just like i was looking at a microscope, after having a chat with , Just, i then went through the same process with a new swab, but still fluid was present, they said they had not come across this before, and after sending test shot, they also agreed that it was behind the protective first layer, in front of the ccd, they have asked me to send My D50 and they will send it for a clean. As anybody come across this problem?, because i will now be scared of cleaning my ccd if and when i get it back, not knocking " just " as they are going to rectify the problem, but i just wondered if anyone else as had this problem. Is there a safer way of cleaning?,

Not that I know off. But I think the service is excellent though.
I've only just cleaned the sensor on the D200 and it worked brilliant.

How strange though that your having problems. Hope it will come back ok. Good luck

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

Did you apply the fluid to the swab or the sensor?

I've not used a fluid based cleaner, but I think that anything that you touch the sensor with should only be at most moist, not wet enough to allow any excess to get under the filter.

If it is ethanol based, maybe a day or two in the airing cupboard would have dried it out. This is the first time I've heard of a problem using a cleaner though, so maybe the bottle/dispenser was allowing too much fluid out.

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

Like you say " maybe the fluid that came out was too much, i suppose the bottle top could be a default bottle or something, not ever used them before, i would not know, will keep you all informed, it just reminded me of looking through one of those childs microscopes, with liquid sandwiched between two pieces of glass,
they seem to be recommended, are there other ways of cleaning your sensor?
dont be put off by my posting, im sure there is an answer to this, and as i say they are going to clean the camera for me. can't be bad, but i will have to clean in the future.

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

Hmmm, surprised they claim not to have heard about this before as there are numbers of examples around - fluid seeping between sensor and antialias filter from a "wet" swab (rather than moist). In theory it shouldn't happen as the filter is bonded to the sensor but practically, as you've discovered it can occur but IIRC, fluid will eventually evaporate. Great that they're prepared to sort out the problem.

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

Four drops does seem quite alot to use. When I used those swabs, I only ever used 1 drop, which just moistened it enough to clean.

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

Yes, a couple of drops at most should be enough. Eclipse is actually pure methanol so will evaporate eventually to leave nothing behind, but it's good that they're sorting it for you anyway.

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

The fluid was applied to the swab, in the literature that you get with the kit, they say" 2 to 4 drops, so i used four drops as this is my first clean, and in the test shots there seemed to be quite a bit of contamination. so i used 4 drops, will keep you all informed, there will be a logical explanation to it, there always is, but I must say that " Just have handled it very good, and are handling the repair with great speed.

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

I'd avoid putting anything on the sensor unless you absolutely have to. I stick to blowers because as of yet (touch wood) I haven't had a bunny that was too steadfast to be removed by blower.

Re: Just Eclipse Cleaning Fluid

I have nearly always managed to get away with blowers as well. NPS seminars are handy because they will give you quick wash and brush up for free and finally with a quick plug for Fixation as a supplier they give 2 free sensor cleans when you buy a pro body from them although I haven't had to use any yet.
