At last !

I have been looking at the specs of the new Canon EOS R full frame, 30MP mirror less camera.
Looks good and initially will come with free EF adaptor.
It is supposedly the fastest focusing camera on the market.
They have a range of lenses already and a battery grip, and is fully compatible with existing flash, and using the adapter, with EF lenses .
Looks good and I will be watching the tests in the magazines and on line, not going to dive in till it it's proven, but still very interested.

Re: At last !

Just like the Nikon Z7, it is interesting without being perfect. I've just read the first impressions in DPReview and they say 'the Canon EOS R isn't quite the mirrorless 5D that you've been waiting for'.

I've seen a video by a respected Nikon wild life photographer where he firmly come out with the opinion that the Z will not cut it for wildlife and action, so the compromises that come with mirrorless cameras seemingly intrude on the handling and performance. He ended up by saying that if he had a once in a lifetime opportunity and was faced with taking either the Nikon Z7 or the Nikon D7500 (a mid range dSLR camera). he would pick the D7500.

Re: At last !

When I move to mirrorless, I want a large weight saving to make it worthwhile. The new Canon is 660gm whereas my 5D Mkiv is 890 gm so the new lenses will need to be much lighter to attract me. It also depends on performance. I have found the increased Dynamic Range of the Mkiv a great asset but maybe the new mirrorless camera is similar.

Re: At last !

The new Nikon lenses are apparently much more compact and lighter, but come at the expense of being f5.6.

Re: At last !

I'm doubling down on dSLR. I'm making preparations to purchase either a D850 or D5. I'd just stay with my 800 but it's got some miles on it and is starting to get squirrelly.. Still deciding on 850 or D5.... I kind of don't want to go down in megapixels, but for a D5 I would.

Not impressed with the Nikon mirrorless. I think this is the epitome of "Don't buy first generation offerings on a new platform."

even with the adapter for my old glass..
