Or the newer OS version. I think that the non-OS 50-500 is still in production too.

Re: which lens

I have no experience with either, Fiona, but I'm just curious as to why you might have discounted the 100-400? MPB have a selection at just over the £900 mark.

Re: which lens

Fair comment!

Sigma lenses do offer great value, and if you buy a UK model it comes with a three year warranty too.

Alas - they need it.

EVERY one of the 4 Sigma zooms I've owned failed under warranty!

Primes have been fine.

Re: which lens

i have had good experience and bad with sigma........i have a 20 - 40mm 2.8 which is one of hte best lenses for the money i have owned, its tack sharp at everything the only minor niggle is that it sometimes hunts a bit.... but with beautiful bokeh and sharp images its a cracker, and i have also had the misfortune to use the 24-70 sigma which is the biggest amount of tat i have ever come across.... but I cannot afford the 100- 400 no matter how i try to justify it if th sigma os that amount of money cheaper, I have done a lot of review reading and it seems to be that the 120 - 400 comes out on top

Re: which lens

Personally, I'd go for the 150-500 - if I know I'll not need the long end on that lens I'll borrow OH's 100-400! But then I often need 500 + 1.4x TC and as a walkabout it's great (I'll only take the 500 prime when I know I'll use it!). Never given me any probs although OS is a little noisy (but they are!).

Re: which lens

I've used the 120 - 400 and it's absolutely tack sharp everywhere, I had previously wanted the 500 but to be honest I'd actually pick the 120 400 over that and get a converter if I wanted more reach.

I use Sigma zooms exclusively as I don't have the cash for Canon L glass and I have never had one let me down, even to one I have used day in day out for years now.

Re: which lens

I did a wedding this time last year so every shot except a couple were taken inside with flash. I used my Canon EOS 20D set at 400asa and one lens a Canon 24-105 L and this covered everything, Admittedly it was a small wedding only 30 guests so big groups were not a problem. If you are unsure stick with one lens and concentrate on the photos and not give yourself more problems " Which lens will I use "
Best of luck.
Colin.

Re: which lens

colin, its not about which lens will i use, I know which lens to use its about me wanting a longer zoom in my bag than what i currently have...... my choices are 120-400 or the 150 - 500.
I regularly shoot weddings so i know what im using in those circumstances

Re: which lens

What will you be using them for ?

My brother has a 50-500 for a E620 (but that has IS built in to camera). Great results for a super zoom.

I had a 130-400 Sigma and that was a pile of ****! Hope the 120-400 is better. I now have a SH 300mm Canon for bird photos with a 1.4x converter. Obviously that don't zoom.

Re: which lens

For what its worth i have had the 50-500 none is, the 100-400 and am now the proud owner of the 150-500 and whilst i humed and hard over the lense the deciding factor was that the 150-500 came out tops in both the Canon and Nikon magazine big boy tests. Although it is early days yet i am over the moon with my choice.
