24-105mm or 10-22mm or different one ?

Hi there everyone, I would like to get a lens for my canon 400d but I little bit struggle which one. I do really like canon 24-105mm but I am not sure I want to invest 800-900 which it normally costs. Also 10-22mm looks good ... I have been trying to see some photos takem by these lenses but still can't find what I need - how much they can zoom in and out and see the difference. Anyone could give me some advice which lens would be kind of similar to the 24-105 one? Just a bit cheaper? Many thanks.

Re: lens for canon 400d ...

The usual way of deciding to add lenses to your camera is to fill gaps in your equipment to meet your shooting style. For instance if you like shooting landscapes you would go for a wide lens and usually if you enjoy photographing wildlife then a long zoom lens would probably be required. There is very little point in a photographer trying to capture birds in flight buying a 10-20mm lens. The 24-105 you mention can be seen as a good all round lens that covers a range useful for most everyday subjects and is especially good for portraits. If you only want to carry on lens and have a reasonable range that could be the one for you. Cost wise, they can be picked up secondhand for around 650 (in excellent condition). Dave has one for sale in @625 in the following thread http://www.pixalo.com/community/phot...ear-31779.html

So what do you like to photograph and what other lenses (if any) do you currently own. Once we know that we can help you a little more

If you are looking for a general purpose lens, Silkstone has lots of good things to say about the Tamron 18-270.

As Steve says, we need more information regarding the lenses you have now and what you like to take pictures of before more detailed recommendations can be made.

Re: lens for canon 400d ...

Of course I got my camera as others with the 18-55mm. I do like everyday subjects... I don't think it's only me who looks around and when there is something good, just take a shot. With the 18-55mm you can't really zoom in which is probably what I miss and need. Seeing something nice in a distance, take a shot but it is tiny on the photo ... Landscapes I would probably take not often but mostly it is people, animals, objects like bridges, rivers, boats, trees, buildings, etc ... Thank you for the tamron 18-270sugestion ... will have a look

Oh yah, the 18-270 is actually the one I saw in a magazine yesterday ... as a new product ... Also the price is reasonable. I don't know when it came out but I couldn't find any photos taken by that lens .... I need more searching ...
