Which lens to cover 100-400mm for Nikon ?
Although I love the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens , I often find myself wanting that extra focal length. Therefore what lens would people recommend to cover 100-400mm for a Nikon body ?

Just Had A Look To Your Link To Ken Rockwell Site.
Don't Know If Anyone Has Read About His Nikon F100. It Is The Only Left Handed Camera Ever Produced, Nikon Decided Not To Put It Into Production, Which Is A Great Shame,as There Are No Left Handed Cameras On The Market . Ken Rockwell Has Been Given This One On Permanent Loan From Nikon What A Lucky Man. I Would Have Loved That Oppertunity |

Not a clue, mate, but don't forget I don't have a telephoto lens yet, and the Sigma could change my life. Make me poorer, that is.

I assume the Nikon 80-400 af vr will do the job.

As others have pointed out Nikon makes a 80-400mm lens, but I have tried it and was not too thrilled. I am not sure it is a good idea to cover the entire range with one piece of glass anyway. You appear to be all set for the 70-200mm range, so all you need is the beautiful 200-400mm f/4.0G AF-S VR. I have not had the opportunity to try it out, but here is Bjørn Rørslett's review. Cheers, Peter |

Re: Which lens to cover 100-400mm for Nikon ?
Stay away at all costs from the 80-400...ESPECIALLY if you hope to do any sports. Instead, opt for the 70-200 VR + 1.4x Teleconverter. You lose a stop or two, but the image quality is virtually uncomprimised (unless you're blowing up prints to 24x36) and is worlds apart from the 80-400. If that doesn't do the trick, the 2.0x doesn't affect your final image that much either, but keep in mind you can crop good, excessive images, yet you cannot fix crappy originals.
