Lens To Fit - Nikon D50 -
Hi there, I have just baught a Nikon D50, well November actually, With Kit Lens, I have read the manual, what I would like to know, Can I use other manufacturers lenses, Sigma, do they make them to communicate with the eletronics of this camera?.
Do any of you have a D50, and do you use other Nikon type lenses with it? that I might be able to buy second hand. The reason behind the question Is, I am not using It for making money, well I do the odd wedding, word of mouth brings the odd one my way, so my Income will not stretch to buy some nikon lenses, but I would like to experiment eventually with other lenses, or second hand lenses of Nikon make, I am UK based, if anyone is going to mention a good second hand seller. cheers guys...Pete.

Sigma, Tamron and Tonkina lenses are made to fit most of the mainstream camera bodies, you just have to specify what mount you require.
Aas far as I know, they do support the functions that the camera manufacturers lenses have. There are plenty of other D50 users here, so I'm sure you will get some first hand info soon. |

Re: Lens To Fit - Nikon D50 -
I have a D50 and 2 Sigma lenses. They work perfectly.
![]() As for second hand lenses. Again, I have 2. They both work fine however one of them is completely manual. Manual focussing, shutter speed and aperture. It is however 25 years old I bought it without having a clue what I was doing and paid £55 for the pleasure ![]() The other is "only" 15 years old but is fully automatic. It was a bargain at £7 There is a nikon mount - usually described as non-ai I think. These are the only ones you can't use as they physically won't fit your cam. At least not without involving a machine shop. I got my second hand stuff from ebay... this is the search i usually use:- eBay.co.uk - nikkor, nikon, nikon lens, Camera Lenses items at low prices That'll get you all/most of the nikon (nikkor) lenses. Best bet is if you see anything you fancy, post here first and ask. |

Re: Lens To Fit - Nikon D50 -
Well as far as Nikon lenses go there is one cheap one - the 50mm f/1.8. I've seen it as cheap as £69 and more usually under £90 - great for portraits, always reviews well.
I use a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM - was under £280 (can't remember exactly). It worked flawlessly with my D50 and now with my D200. I really like the build quality and have been very happy with it so far. |

Re: Lens To Fit - Nikon D50 -
The Nikon D50 employs the Nikon DX Format sensor and Nikon F lens mount design. This maintains seamless compatibility with all AF Nikkor lenses and allows photographers to take full advantage of DX Nikkor lenses designed for Nikon's D-series digital SLR cameras and which are optimized to achieve maximum center-to-edge-to-corner image quality.
Compatible Lenses 1) DX Nikkor: All functions supported 2) Type G or D AF Nikkor: All functions supported 3) Micro Nikkor 85 mm F2.8D: All functions supported except autofocus and some exposure modes 4) Other AF Nikkor: All functions supported except 3D Color Matrix Metering II 5) AI-P Nikkor : All functions supported except 3D Color Matrix Metering II and autofocus 6) Non-CPU : Can be used in exposure mode M, but exposure meter does not function; electronic range finder can be used if maximum aperture is f/5.6 or faster Note: IX Nikkor lenses can not be used Hope the info is helpfull....
