Lens Hoods

Hi,

I am looking to buy a lens hood.

At the moment, I have the 18-55 kit lens that came with the 400D, a 70-300 USM (non IS), and will soon have a 50mm 1.8

I can't seem to find what hoods I need for what lens, or are they fairly interchangable?

Cheers
Paul

Re: Lens Hoods

This news item might help. I suspect there are others around too. I think the Canon ones are quite expensive.

Re: Lens Hoods

thanks for the link, althought I am still not sure which one I would need for my lenses. That site only lists a few lenses?

Is it just down to the diameter of the lens?

Re: Lens Hoods

There's a compatibility list here, although I can't vouch for accuracy!

eBay.co.uk Guides - Canon EOS EF Series Lens Hood Compatibility Chart

Canon lens hoods are all different, mostly incompatible and ridiculously expensive. You may find third-party alternatives on eBay.

You can also make your own!

Re: Lens Hoods

I bought one for my Nikon for about £5.00 from Hong KONG AND THAT INCLUDED POSTAGE! Nikon wanted £25.00 plus p&p.Its a rubber hood with screw 52mm thread its also threaded to take filters etc at the front and back, its a quality piece of kit and is adjustable to cater for wide angle, standart focal and telephoto.

Re: Lens Hoods

Just remembered - SRB do a range of lens hoods. I got a rubber one for my nifty fifty for £3.50.
