Wink Lens options?

Hi I am a keen photographer and currently use a Nikon D60, what lenses would people suggest for 1) City skyline shots (Wide angle/fish eye lens) and 2) Close up shots (Macro/Micro lens)?

I do not mind manual focus on the Macro/Micro lens but would prefer autofocus on the Wide lens.

Cheers

Matt

Re: Lens options?

Matt

Personally, I use the Sigma 10-20mm for close 'n wide, Sigma 17-35mm for landscapes and Sigma 105mm and 150mm for macros

Re: Lens options?

Thanks for the welcome and quick reply Markulous.... How close to the subject will the 105mm and 150mm allow me to get and are they manual focus or auto focus?

Re: Lens options?

Welcome to pixalo Matt

I don't do macro, but can endorse the Sigma 10-20 for tight cityscapes.

I took most of the pictures in York with this lens. There should be EXIF info in all of the pictures.

York - Pixalo Photo Gallery

NRM - Pixalo Photo Gallery

York Minster - Pixalo Photo Gallery

There are now two versions of the Sigma 10-20, the original f4-5.6 and the later one with the constant f3.5.

Re: Lens options?

Wow now that is ONE IMPRESSIVE family of Sigma lenses that was recommended. Those are all gems and well worth their cost. In terms of Macro, depending on what you are using it for, you might not need to get TOO close to your subject(s) and also they most likely 1:1 macro lens AT their shooting distances so maybe it will not be a huge concern. However, you can also consider using close up filters (alot of people don't like them as you are adding inferior glass to your awesome lens but it does get you to above 1:1). With close up fliters you pretty much HAVE to MF as AF will just hunt and hunt and hunt.
