lense advice
hi,
ive been doing photography for about 1 year and just getting to terms with all the technical jargon etc. ive got a 400d and just bought 60mm ef-s canon macro lense. ive been reading up on what wide angle to get and im interested in the canon 10-22mm ef-s. at some point id like to upgrade to the 5d or equivalent in 1-2years but understand this does not support ef-s mounts. so if i do upgrade it appears i will have to replace the above lenses. knowing this i should have bought the ef 100mm macro i guess. i guess my question is what would you recommend on doing....is it likely that cameras like the 5d will support the ef-s mount?! (probably a stupid question) if not is there a similar lense you could recommend instead of the 10-22mm lense? |

Re: lense advice
Welcome to Pixalo Spinninghat
![]() I'm not best placed to advise on lenses that will suit a 400D and a 5D, but someone who can will be along soon. I think that a lens that will be wide angle on the 5D will not be very wide on the 400D. If you want a wide angle for the 400D, don't overlook the excellent Sigma 10-20. Tokina have a 11-16mm f2.8 in their range, but it is new so I don't know how it is rated, and Tamron also have a 10-24, but I don't know if it is available yet. I know the Nikon version has been delayed.

Re: lense advice
The Sigma 12-24 will work on 5D

Re: lense advice
ef-s lenses do not fit on the 5D due to their extended length beyond the mount, so any lens with that mount is useless and will become redundant for you if/when you upgrade.

Re: lense advice
but if you were to get the 17 - 40mm i think that would be approx the same on a 5d as the 10-22 is on the 400d.......... by the way the 10-22mm is a STUNNING lens and if you do decide to get it you will in no way be disapointed, it has been said that the only reason its not an L series is that it is an EF-S.
I intend at some point to go full frame but finances means that it wont be in the foreseable future, so by the time im able to i will have well got my moneys worth out of the wide angle. ( and get it at One stop digital for the cheapest price!) Fi |
