Re: lense making grinding noise, help

I know nothing about this lens so I Googled and noted that it can be bought new for £105. I think any repairs or servicing are likely to exceed that so my thoughts are to start looking for a new lens. That said, if you do intend to get a new lens then you might as well have a play about with the old one first. Nothing lost.

One suggestion is to list on EBAY , including description of problem. You will be amazed what people pay for goods with faults. Then buy a replacement. Probably cheaper than any repair.

Alternatively try to live with it, thus saving any extra expense, but with outlook it may get worse.

Re: lense making grinding noise, help

It sounds like there may be some grit or sand in it - easy to happen on a beach, especially if windy. As the others have said, a repair is probably uneconomical. Sorry, but replacing it is probably the best option if it becomes unusable.

Re: lense making grinding noise, help

sounds like sand in the focus ring. this can be bad as it can get inside your lens and do some damage to either the glass or the sensor in worst case. I've had this happen to me, there's not a lot you can do .. I suppose you could try sending it in, it might prove fruitful but then again if it's not a lens you plan on keeping forever then it's probably not worth it. Try selling it second hand for about 30 % off as used.. when you want to upgrade, that is.
