Lenses (again...)

So, after some research I have decided to go for the 400D (yes the 450 is coming soon but with the release of it the 400D might even get cheaper) body only. Now with it I would buy a proper lens. So the question is:

What lens to buy with the 400D?

Now the criteria for the lens is the following:
  • Cheap (In the range of 200-400€ (No idea of how much a good lens cost :S ))
  • Compatibility with the 400D (duh...)
  • Should be an all around lens
Now as some of you have noticed, I have a 300v also. So if the lens would be compatible with the 300v it would be a extra bonus (but isn't completely necessary...).

Tamron 18-250

OK, there are compromises with a lens of this focal length range, but provided you shoot in reasonable light (or turn the ISO up) the results from this are pretty darn good. Even if you later buy a batch of L-series lenses, this one will still be good as a compact 'travel lens' if you don't want to take the whole caboodle, and in situations where you don't want to swap lenses.

I have the 18-200 version which I'm pleased with, and the reports suggest that the 18-250 is even better.

Details of the 18-250 (but no reviews yet)... http://www.pixalo.com/reviews/showpr...uct/276/cat/17

Details and (my) review of the 18-200 which is similar...

This is a DC lens for the 1.6x cameras, so unfortunately would not be any good on your 300V. (It would fit, but there would be severe vignetting.)

Hmmm, Is the 80-250 version 100+ € better then the 80-200?

Re: Lenses (again...)

I don't know, stuki, because I've not tried the 18-250, but it is a slightly newer design and the extra reach would be useful. All I can say is that I would go for the 18-250 if I were buying now. Also bear in mind that the 18-200 is actually more like 17-175 or thereabouts.
