Re: Looking for a Tripod

In a studio there is no need for carbon fibre or twist leg locks. I like the Manfrotto metal legs as a good balance between sturdiness and cost. I have the 055 but if I were buying again I'd try and get a higher one. This is ideal for any work where you are standing on the ground and I am 6'3" but for a studio even higher sometimes gives a different perspective. Again for studio work a three way or ball head is not going to make much difference and you can get a big heavy one since you won't be carrying it.

I have a Manfrotto 055prob with an 804rc2 head and find it a great alrounder.

Another 55pro user here. Can't comment on other brands but Manfrotto do 'video' dollies for the 190 and 55 ranges and I guess they could be really useful in a studio?

Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 and 808RC4 head.
Tall, light and reassuringly expensive
