Re: Macro Advice...

With lenses you are always going to get personal opinions and people will mostly push the ones they own so I will try to be objective.

To my mind three lenses come into the frame for a macro lens -
  1. Tamron 90mm - it's cheap with excellent image quality but maybe the build isn't as good as say Canon. the other downer is that it has external focusing so it can scare the bugs away.
  2. Canon 100mm - IMO best image quality, internal focusing (does not extend) and excellent build quality. To me the only con is it is more expensive.
  3. Sigma 150mm - good IQ, reasonable build, it allows you to get the same shot as the others but from further away but.....it weighs a ton.
Bearing in mind you shoot Nikon then the Canon is a non-starter so, in your shoes I would certainly recommend the Tamron. HTH

Re: Macro Advice...

The Sigma 105mm also is very fine for macro shots (and is $150-$200 cheaper than the 150mm lens).

Re: Macro Advice...

I researched all your recommendations and I'm leaning towards the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro lens.

Thanks for your help
