memory card problem

just bought a 2gb memory card and when i format the card then turn the camera off and back on again the card needs to be formatted again which means i lose pics, also the camera is displaying 'card error' message. I would appreciate any advice on this matter

I think we need a few more details here. What camera and what card? Also what do you mean that when you turn the camera off and on again you have to re-format? Is there any messge displayed to this effect?

hi sorry here are a few more details, the camera is hitachi hdc-646e and the card is transcend sd 2gb. when i first formatted the card then turned the camera off and back on again the camera displayed the message 'this card cannot not be used', i was able to re-format the card then the same thing happened again, now when i try to format the card i get the message 'card error'. i have the card with the lock in both positions.

The lock needs to be in the off position.

I'm not familiar with this camera. Is this the first use of the camera, or have you sucessfully used other cards previously with no problem?

i've had the camera since january and had no problems with it, i'm convinced the problem lies with the card as the previous card works, the lock on the new card is in the off position, it's got me baffled

What size is your old card? Not familiar with the camera but if its a few years old may not be able to manage 2gb cards.

What size was the previous card? I'm jiust wondering if the camera has a size limit on the cards that can be used. If so, it should say so in the specs.

More likely to be a faulty card. Do you have any other devices you can try it in?

just checked the manual, the camera only supports memory cards up to 1gb, should have checked before i bought the card, thanks for all the advice
