Mid Life

Regards my recent crisis I am now the very happy owner of the following optically orientated trinkets.

Canon 6D and grip, 70D and grip, 70-200 2.8 IS V2, 80 1.2 V2, 100 2.8 IS, 16-35 2.8 V2 and 25mm extension tube.

If anyone else has tips or tricks for getting the best out of these things, please share your thoughts.

Horror stories are good too.

Re: Mid Life

I have found it is best to get out and use the equipment regularly so it becomes almost automatic. You can then concentrate on the image to be captured rather than the equipment.

That's very true. Cameras have so many functions on them these days that I have to fumble through menus quite a bit to find what I want.

Re: Mid Life

Nice one! now just set the camera on aperture priority or whatever it is on Canon cameras (I am Nikon) put the 16-35mm on and the 70-200mm in your pocket and get out there and enjoy yourself!.....I think someone has said practice, yes thats the word.........

Just as soon as we get some descent weather.
The 70-200 ways a ton so I need to plan when I use that.

I got that problem sorted a long time ago! I bought a so called super zoom.....28-300mm that stops on the camera for most subjects......

Put the 80mm on the 6D set at 1.2 only and the 70D with 70-200 set at 2.8 and take yourself to a zoo for a day. Take photos of every animal and keeper you can and enjoy.

As for horror stories I guess if you have just acquired this kit you will soon be drooling over a 5Diii, 7Dii or a 1Dx and a 300mm2.8Mkii with a 200-400mm as a backup. Gear lust is worse than smoking.

Just take it out with you everywhere you should get used to it. It is an awesome lens. If you still find it heavy after a while consider the 70-300L. I have both now after choosing the 70-300L first (due to weight) and it being my main lens for many happy years. I got the 70-200 recently for football matches due to the shallow DOF but it is taking over as No1 lens to grab.

Re: Mid Life

I did have a 5D v3 but we fell out.
The 85 1.2 sits on the camera most of the time as it's my favourite.

As for my spelling, I need to work on that too.
