My film SLR adventure !

Ive finally regressed... bought a Minolta Dynax5 SLR for next to nothing a few days ago. All of my AF Minolta/Sony lenses will fit Collected the first 2 batches of prints yesterday-wow ! I dont have a film scanner so before I decide to invest, Im going to try copying with my DSLR, a lightbox, a macro lens and tripod. I can invert to positives using PS CS . Id like to store them digitally to be able to share. This is FUN ! Who else on Pixalo shoots film ??

Cath

Heh heh... I doubt any of us can say we havnt got an ol' SLR somewhere....

Scanning....
If you have a scanner/printer, you can get some results that way, I have a Lexmark all-in-one "Fingy" that is used as a dedicated scanner, (The ink is too expensive to bother with when I have a Epson R300...) but if I go through the options menu, I can raise the DPI settings to do negatives with....

The next roll you have printed just ask for a CD with your prints as well, it might save you a lot of money! glad you enjoyed your results, I'm tempted!

Hi I tried that a few times when I had my Nikon APS camera and I was very disappointedwith the result. The images were very grainy. Id rather try to copy them myself

Re: My film SLR adventure !

Steve - What did you use to scan the negs, and are you happy with the results? Those shots look pretty good.

Re: My film SLR adventure !

Hi silkstone,
I used a plustek 7300 dedicated 35mm film scanner with the silverfast software. I think they retail at around 150.

It is possible to get good scans out from a plustek scanner but it takes time to get the best results. Since I only get 1 or 2 good photos per role I find that adequate for my needs, I use the standard 6*4 for proofs.

PS I can really recommend Kodak Ektar 100 for scanning, very low grain and good colours IMHO.

Re: My film SLR adventure !

Thanks Steve. I have lots of old negs and slides taken with a variety of films, and had wondered about the Plustek scanners.
