Re: Need a new bag, read loads and still no idea HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!
Crumplers are great but I have found that they don't hold as much as Crumpler reckon they do. I upgraded from large to extra large, which should have held all I needed it to but when it arrived I really should have got an XXL. No way will they hold as much as you need them to hold. But as they are the only bags I have I'm afraid I can't help with any other suggestions......which is not much help to you is it really!?

Tamrac Expedition 5 or, more likely, 7
I use the 7 having used the 8 for years. Excellent! And has room for extras, like fleece, etc. The rest I hang off the outside (hat, gloves, etc). Initially looked at them as you can get their neckstrap with an additional set that hangs the camera off the shoulder straps - takes the weight off your neck when out and about all day |

Re: Need a new bag, read loads and still no idea HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!
FWIW - my Mini Trekker AW is pretty much full up now and contains:
1 Nikon D70s body with no lens. 1 Nikon D300 with lens (lets call it the 18-70 for now). 1 Sigma 10-20mm. 1 Sigma 70-200mm f2.8.. 1 Nikkor 50mm. 1 Sigma 1.4 teleconverter. 1 Large blower. 5 Sandisk 2 card wallets. 1 Selvyt cleaning cloth. 1 Circular poloriser. small bits and pieces- lens//body caps/mini spirit level/etc. In the lid 2 remote releases filter wallet with 6 'P' size filters. 1 77mm filter adaptor. 1 67mm filter adaptor. 1 Lowepro 4 card wallet odds and ends. In the external pocket Filter wrench SensorKleen pen camera manuals 1 battery charger and mains lead. tripod stone bag. Externally Tripod. This lot weighs in at about 8-8.5 kgs. All of the lenses will accommodate the hoods on the lenses( reversed ). I could squeeze in a couple of bottles/cans of drink. I hate rucksacks when you carry them by the handle - straps all over the place and dragging on the ground. however, when it is on my back and done up properly, I don't know it is there, it is excellent. Downside is that when you want to get to something it is a pain compared to a toploader.

Re: Need a new bag, read loads and still no idea HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!
I love the Orion AW but the only real problem is you can't fit a 70-200mm into it (so I guess your 100-400 is out). It has many of the benefits of a backpack along with being a toploader as it converts from one to the other.
The only bag I have seen that I think I could definitely get all my gear into is the Lowepro Omni series - at some point I reckon I will get a Trekker - but I don't think that is going to be ideal for carrying. These days I just select the gear I think I will need and take a suitable bag (I now have 5-6 of them).

Re: Need a new bag, read loads and still no idea HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!
I personally would try and find a Lowepro. I have not tried Tamrac, etc..... but am sure that they are very good/excellent bags. The reason I would choose a Lowepro..... I had a Orion Trekker bought in 2000; the inside coating is breaking down, but Lowepro replaced it (unfortunately for me, it was the new version... life can be hard huh!!!) without question. This just shows to me that the company does look after people (as well as its enviromental efforts). That is not to say other companies aren't looking after their customers or the enviroment, it is just my personal experience. Either way, look at a reputable company, that make bags for photographers.
Cheers, Primer :-) |

Mini Trecker AW is rather small but can carry far more than larger bags out of the same factory. It's so good I've just got one for my Partner.

Re: Need a new bag, read loads and still no idea HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!
Got my backpack case thingy today.
Many thanks to those who made suggestions. The Lowepro mini trecker is the mutts nuts, more than enough room for all my kit, and a butty box section as well. Got a drinks holder accessory for my bottle of lookyzade for when my legs give out. Very happy bunny
