Needs advice

I have been informed that as I have been very very VERY good i can get a new lens for my birthday so i have chosen the <cough> 100-400mm L <cough> been having a look for the cheapst price and have found one at Park cameras.....cheaper than anywhere else. so
has anyone had dealing with park and can u let me know if they are good bad or indifferent .... pls....... and soon. cos the sooner i can get Alan to order it the less chance he has of changing his mind!

Martinscamerashop are cheaper and I've used them before too. Make sure any shop has it in stock. Sometimes they will sell you one and then order it in.

Re: Needs advice

had the use of one last summer had no problems even in lower light.... was swithering about the sigma 150 - 500 but I think 150 is just on the long side for a starting length and sigma has the reputation of having either very good copies or very bad ones.

Re: Needs advice

Kerso was where I got mine Fiona, price was cheapest anywhere at the time and believe me I searched every nook and cranny on the web. He has a good reputation, might be worth giving him a call or email to 2kerso@gmail.com He will do postage for you and if you get impatient well it's just a short hop across the Forth to Buckhaven where you can pick it up yourself. I collected it myself and spent the rest of the afternoon in Fife with it. He has a ebay shop, I don't see the 100-400L listed but it doesnt mean he aint got one. If buying outside of Ebay shop then he will pass the savings onto you ie; paypal postage etc. I know the price has jumped up dranatically since I bought mine (before credit crunch fiasco) I don't know what he will chargew now.

Re: Needs advice

I got my 17-40L from Kerso, he price beat everyone and I had it 2 days later even though he didn't have it in stock.

It was in a UK box so can't have been a grey import.

He was great to deal with and was cheap.

Sorry, to far away to help. But very happy for your wish to get the 100-400. Just a thought after having it sence it first came out. I would like to see a 200-600 made the same way... Hope you move right along and have the time of your life with it. An absolutely wonderful lens.

I must have a good one then ..... and prefer it to the 100-400mm: better stabilisation + sensible way to carry it (strap on tripod collar) + extra 100mm + equal quality + half the price + isn't a stupid colour. Will admit that build isn't so good and it's somehat noisier!

But if you're determined, I too would recommend Kerso (providing he's got them in stock) - good price and efficient service

If I've missed anything in the few weeks I've been inactive, I'd like to apologise in advance ....however, and I really hope this doesn't come across the wrong way but wouldn't you be better spending that sort of money on a PC upgrade after your last round of issues?

Re: Needs advice

probably, yep its true, but its working fine ( touch wood) its alans that is playing silly beggers at the moment. we have three computers in the house, so i have an option. I donth ave another decent zoom lens. ( and..... dont tell alan........... but this is my birthday present the PC will get replaced as a household thing! ) i did actually think i coudl spend half the amount on a sigma lens and hte other half on a PC...... a PC will cost a couple hundred to replace, its not as if its the same price. and now alan is working, he has three years of being a kept man to pay me back for, ( cough) oops here he comes! lol

well mine "seems" to have resolved, but alans is just turning off.. end of no signal to the monitor nothing. he recently put a new mobo and vid card in and everything was working fine, then all of a sudden it just starts to turn itself off. Now its doing it almost as soon as its started and sometimes doesnt even complete the start up.

Hmmm, they always used to be US imports, which is fine if a lens as Worldwide warranty, but for a camera it's not the same (US warranty only)

And you wonder how us men can't work out what you're thinking? Hehe.

I understand that is a cracking lens. Let me know what you think of it as that's what I was looking to upgrade my sigma lens to. However it's performed so fantastically lately that I'll just be keeping (esp since I've had zero enquiries about it hahaha!).
